What's wrong with my back??!?!!?!!?

I am 20 and having back problems which sucks :o I get like this sharp pain coming from my lower back 1.5-2inches away from my spine. I used to think it only happened when i lifted but for the first time the other day i was on one knee bending down sanding down something and spray painting it when it just hit me it felt like a quick shock and i stood up slowly because it hurt. When standing if i try to bend over it hurts and the times when its worse i feel like something tugging on my left leg near the groin area. I cant drive either because I drive a stick shift and it hurts just to push the clutch in.

Tomorrow Im trying to make an appointment but where do i go doctor or chiropractor? I dont have insurance and im paying cash so can i just skip the doctor since i know its in my back. I'm afraid they're just gonna take my money, give me pain medication, and refer me to a specialist. All i can think of is a chiropractor, is there anyone else i should contact instead.
Update : Also I forgot to mention that the times its happened is when its like fresh outside and my back muscles are engaged

I was having some major back issues from July to October. I thought it was something very serious as I couldn't extend my legs out flat in front of myself while sitting on the floor, standing from a sitting position required me to hold onto something and pull myself up. Reading my children a bedtime story became a painful chore and was something I no longer enjoyed. I couldn't even pick up my 3 year old. Finally I went to see my doctor (i recommend getting a professional opinion as it could be a serious issue) and found out i was suffering from a tight piriformis muscle. In 5 weeks, 8 physio appointments, and some advanced healing products, i was pain free. Totally healed and have not even had a relapse since.

I think, you suffered by disc problem and majority of disc problems will resolve regardless of treatment. Bed rest is occasionally best for initial management of severe sciatica, but most people can keep active with some restrictions according to the level of pain. Good pain control and allowing the person to move is often a good approach.

Some common treatments include:

Heat treatment
Regular massage
An exercise program designed to improve strength and flexibility
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or steroids
Pain-relieving medication
An injection of anti-inflammatory steroids into the region of the disc
Uncommonly, in severe cases of ruptured disc, an operation may be needed to trim the protruding bulge (laminectomy)
Also uncommonly, in severe cases of degenerative disc disease, an operation may be needed to remove the disc and fuse together the two vertebrae on either side.

Hi buddy,

You description is very brief but it does seem to be most likely muscle related, rather than something more serious. It is difficult to give you any accurate suggestions with the pain you are experiencing specifically in your groin area and whether they might be related. It is therefore best to see a professional who can take a more detailed history and perform clinical testing to form a comprehensive diagnosis. In my opinion, from experience I would see a physical therapist/physio. A doctors visit is not usually warranted.

Best of luck!
