ATM question?

For business owners who own an atm machine in their stores, what keeps them from taking the money out from the machine and using it for themselves since they have the key and code to open it? Is it illegal or something?

Like they can literally open it and take the cash out, deposit it in the same machine, and keep doing that......

The ATM is not usually owned by the store unless it's an ATM at a bank. The store managers won't have a key to it and an operative from the company that owns it has a key or a contractor they are using. The store employees can't take cash out of it, no. The store will receive income from having the ATM there but that would be sent to them separately.

Just like any atm machine, there are a limited number of people who have a key. All the money is counted. If someone takes money, it would be noticed.

Stored don't own atm machines. I don't think they would even be allowed to. There are banking regulations, and each atm machine has to be backed up by a bank. Even if the name on the machine isn't a back, there's a bank that delivers the cash and services the machine.

I think the bank pays a the store for the space.

The machine belongs to the bank not the business.
