When I got married I bought my Grandmoms ring off my dad and uncle, as she is no longer living. It is a special ring and financially...?

it's worth a good amount. I took the big stone out and made a ring for my now wife. There are 2 smaller diamonds that I was thinking of getting them molded together and cut in thirds. I can then give it to my brother, and 2 cousins.
Thoughts?

Cutting a diamond to achieve the best clarity and sparkle is a precise art, and each diamond has the exact cuts needed to make it look its best. If a diamond of any size were to be split, the resulting pieces would not look right, unless they were ground again, which would greatly reduce their already small size.

The diamonds will be worth much less if you have them recut. You could have the two diamonds put into a setting meant for two diamonds for an anniversary gift for your wife, or wait until you have two children and give them each a ring.

You can't 'mold' diamonds. That's stupid.

You're doing EXACTLY what I did!

Husband's grandma was gonna give him rings belonging to HER sister, when we got married but there were static in their relationship. She told me, she would give it to me, when she died, but she tagged EVERYTHING, USING masking tape (with husband's name), and not in writing . . . so after she died, husband's mom took all the tapes tags, and kept the ring, furniture, grand piano, etc. etc. When I reminded husband about MY RING, that it should have come to me, (she needs cash - always and we're well off), she had it appraised, and sold it to me. I already own the engagement ring, but the wedding ring I wanted it in the family for my sons to one day inherit. They're also well off, so I pawned the ring, took the money to re-designed my wedding rings so I can wear it. Grandma's ring, was also sold to another brother, and she did the exact same thing for her rings.

UNLESS you were there to watch, that original stone could have already been changed to a different stone, and likely, it wasn't the same stone, when you thought they were cut into 3rds.
