Why do old people get wheeled on the plane in a wheel chair and then walk off with no trouble?

Many people can walk a few steps , but not stand in long lines for a long time- people with heart trouble, for example. My friend just had a hip transplant- she could walk a little- with some pain, but standing for a long time was not something she could do. Try not to be so judgmental- you might be in the position some day.

Suggest you ASK THEM.
Many reasons and most are none of your business.

YES it is also true some are just playing the system to be boarded first.

YOU DO NOT KNOW WHY they needed assistance to board and their personal events an hour or two before boarding. Anything from too tired to walk a long distance maybe walk slow and do not have the time to make connection. At end of flight walking slow to your bags is not a big issue.

A few abuse the system MOST DO NOT.

you usually have to wait so long for disability services that people who are a bit disabled get fed up of waiting and make off on their own and only the really disabled have to wait.

airports at the other end may be smaller - people may know they can walk out the short distance which they might not be able to in a large airport
