Is the last name "Toney" Italian or some other heritage?

Toney isn't an Italian last name, Toni is Italian.
The short name for Anthony, which is Antonio, is Toni, in Italy we don't use the final Y to short our names, just Americans of Italian origin do such thing.
The story that someone has written on here about of Italian immigrants is ludicrous and very stupid.
The last name Toney is from some other heritage.

Yes.

Toney is both an English and an Italian last name.

Not Italian, so it's "some other heritage."

If the name is spelled Tony, then most likely they are Italians.

The word TO-N-Y means TO NEW YORK. When Italians were immigrating to the United States by boat, they would stamp the word TONY on their forehead, so that they would be sure to make it to New York , without getting lost.

Eventual Italian people would name their child "Tony" to make the shipping process easier.

As a last name, it doesn't sound very Italian. Perhaps English.
