Ok, so someone asked this on Facebook and it got me wondering what the answer would be.
If someone donates hair to Locks of Love (or other hair-to-wig for cancer patients charity) and the recipient commits a crime and leaves hair traces...will the donor's DNA be flagged?
Kind of a silly question, but it makes for an interesting discussion

Not flagged, but it will be on record. And when investigators interview the donor and quickly find out that the donor donated hair and they investigate further, they will find out that the donor has an alibi that doesn't fit the crime and the recipient doesn't have an alibi......

It's a very silly question, because they can only get DNA from the hair follicle, which isn't donated. When hair is donated, they cut it with scissors, like when someone gets a haircuit; they don't pull it out of their head. Even if the hair is left t a crime scene, it wouldn't have DNA. So it doesn't make for an interesting discussion.
