Why don't trinitarians understand the difference between honoring and worshiping?

To honor doesn't mean to worship.

Whereas to worship includes honoring.

John 5:23 doesn't say we are to worship Jesus.

It says we are to honor Jesus.

Yet trinitarians will argue to honor is to worship.

Thanks for your comments, but you haven't answered the question.

I agree one verse doesn't make doctrine,But trinitarians use this verse to prove Jesus is God, and yet this verse doesn't say what they want it to say.

G4352 προσκυνέω proskuneō

In the NT this word is applied to men of rank and not just to God

Thayer Definition: 3) in the NT by kneeling or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication

3a) used of homage shown to men and beings of superior rank
3a1) to the Jewish high priests
3a2) to God
3a3) to Christ
3a4) to heavenly beings
3a5) to demons

Thus the NWT is accurate and truthful in it's translation of Mt 14:33 "obeisance"

A lot of typical comments [Jesus is God], but no actual answer to my question.

Which actually proves the point of my question:

Why don't trinitarians understand the difference between honoring and worshiping?

From the many comments, since no one actually answered the question. I have to conclude as a whole, trinitarians DO NOT understand the difference between the Biblical words 'worship' and 'honor'.

G4352 προσκυνέω  proskuneō  Thayer Definition:

"in the NT by kneeling or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication - used of homage shown to men and beings of superior rank"

Yet at John 5:23 Jesus used the Greek word:

G5091 τιμάω  timaō;to fix the value, to price: - had been set (1), honor (16), honored (1), honors (2), price (1).

You will notice in the NASB and even the KJV translation, this word is never translated as worship.

How does Jesus use this word?

Matt 15:4; 19:19  "Honor [g5091] your father and mother"
Matt 15:28 "Honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me"

John 12:26 "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor [g5091] him.

If as trinitarians claim, to honor is to worship, then you have God worshiping man.
Never may that happen!

Add to this, John 5:23 is between John 5:19, and verse 30.

In these 2 verses, Jesus denies being equal to God, since he cannot do a single thing of himself.

It is truly sad, when trinitarians understand simple statements of honor and worship [as in Matt 15:4 and John 12:26] UNTIL you insert Jesus into the statement [John 5:23].

Then you get the typical comment echoed here:  "Jesus is God".

Thank you for the typical trinitarian comment. "Jesus is God"

But this doesn't answer the original question concerning 'honor verses worship'.

And it is true, our love for our family should be less than our love for Jesus, not because Jesus is God but because as he continued to say:

(Matthew 10:40) “40 “Whoever receives you receives me also, and whoever receives me receives also the One who sent me.”

Which agrees with (John 5:23) “23 so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.”

In both verses, all glory is directed back to God the Father.

Why don't you understand that Christians = Trinitarians?

Why don't you understand the difference between "to worship" and "to pray to"?

To worship =/= to pray to.  We worship and we pray to God, requesting his help or blessing.

The God the Son taught us to "request the intercession of" = "pray to" his mother when he performed his first miracle at the wedding at Cana, turning water into wine *because his mother interceded* for the wedding hosts?

We can honor many people for various reasons. Worship is reserved for God alone - Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit.

What about your leaders?

JWs worshiped Jesus until 1954.

Then your then leaders, gave a new definition to the word worship, whenever Jesus was mentioned.

"Jehovah God commands all to worship Christ Jesus because Christ Jesus is the express image of his Father, Jehovah, and because he is the Executive Officer of Jehovah always carrying out Jehovah's purpose (Heb.:3-6)." Watchtower 1939 Nov 15 p.339

"During the Millennium, "the princes will lead the people in their worship of Jehovah and of Christ." Vindication Volume 3 (J. F. Rutherford, 1932) p.295

"The people of all nations who obtain salvation must come to the house of the Lord to worship there; that is to say, they must believe on and worship Jehovah God and the Lord Jesus Christ, his chief instrument (Philippians 2:10, 11)." Salvation (J. F. Rutherford, 1939) p.151

Doctrine and theological ideas don’t hang on a single scripture.  That’s poor exegesis.
