Why are so many anime based around fighting and battles?
First off, I do not consider myself a person who is obsessed with anime but does enjoy a series or season from time to time. Willing to watch certain ones that find interesting.
From childhood, I grew up watching Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh as one of my first anime series. As I grew up, I seen that there is a lot of conflict as a primary in much anime. Monsters fighting, people fighting, and more. I know anime is not fully based on battle action (look at hentai for example, if you are age 18+) but it sure does seem like each anime is one side vs the other. It seems that a lot of series need that staple.
I just want to know is it anime that needs to have that staple, or (with respect) is Japan a violent or dramatic country?

Conflict is a popular theme that can be seen in many movies and cartoons too so itโs not specific to anime. If you donโt want to see so much fighting you can choose a sports related story in which the conflict takes the form of competition. There are some very good ones too.
That's Marvel, DC, Variant, Image, and IDW. There are more to anime than action which are unique, intriguing, original, and substantive than American comics. Food Wars has nothing to do with fighting, but competition.
Anime is a medium, not a genre.ย There are anime that are romance based, comedy based, and yes, action based.ย The action based ones are particularly popular just as action movies are particularly popular.ย So they make more of what sells more. ย
Japanese culture certainly does have particular quirks.ย The warrior history is still reflected in a lot of things where they turn relatively mundane things into 'battles' or competitions in a lot of anime, but honestly, look at US action cartoons or movies or anything and you see a lot of fighting there as well.ย Action is exciting.ย People like to watch it. ย
