How can I acquire a copy of someone's death certificate?

My uncle died in 2002 and I am looking to get a copy of his death certificate for legal reasons. How would I go about finding and getting a copy? Thank you.

Contact the County Recorder in the county where he died and ask for a copy.

I have gotten those that I need from the local County Record Office.  Paid $20.00 for each including when I needed the birth cerfifict. If this does not work find your local State office for this, meaning their viticual records for death, marriage, and birth records.

If you live in the US and know the county in which he died, you should be able to obtain a copy from the Courthouse at "vital statistics" I think the department is called. Be prepared to pay for it as it will not be free of charge.

My grandmother passed away in Pennsylvania and they use a company called VitalChek for requests of death certificates.  But it depends where the person died.
