When using a Batinov Mask, does it need to be centered?

I was considering buying on of these for use with my S-C Telescope. I saw someone online doing a quick demonstration but they never mentioned whether it needs to be exactly centered or not. Just curious.

I use one on my 11" SCT. Roughly centered seems fine. If anything, you can add some tabs  on the side so the mask stays on, and stays self centgered.
