I'm not sure that I would have been super thrilled at the time, but I would have been very grateful later, if my parents had started a private pension plan for me which would have incentivized me to keep adding to it. 25 is still young enough that even token payments will add up to a handsome payout come retirement. I didn't start to properly plan until just over ten years later and it's certainly something I regret, so a helpful parental push would have been great. I'd probably make the gift feel less clinical by giving a small, classy piece of jewelry on the day, something grown up and understated that can be worn everyday.
