We should fire whichever of them is telling lies. Which one can provide scientific evidence to show what they are saying is true? It may not be what we WANT to know but reality is what we NEED to know.

Most likely the for the same reason Trump said he was going to scale down the Covid-19 task force and then (once again) reversed himself because he didn't realize "how popular they were". 

The American people, as a whole, generally appreciate someone who has the background, the experience, the wherewithal laying out the facts, no matter how bleak they may be, rather than some guy pitching whatever comes into his half-baked mind.
