So you have a church that looks like a mansion inside. Are you trying to impress God / draw in more people?

I don't really think God gives a rip about how beautiful it is on the inside. An old country church with cracked plaster, worn and dinged up pews or any church for that matter would serve the purpous. Beauty has nothing to do with it. I think God would have rather seen the money spent more wisely on the poor / for good of the community etc. Then if the purpose is to draw in more people, thats like  dangling a carrot in front of the donkey so he will pull the cart.

I would say to draw in more people.

Perhaps such a church should use any surplus money on helping those in need rather than opulence.

Horse poop. Reread the Old Testament passages that describe the temples He commanded be built.

That is often called “The Judas Argument“

“When Mary Magdalene annoints the feet of Jesus with costly oil, notice Judas' reaction: isn't to praise her generosity. Judas steps in to criticize her for using it for Jesus and not selling the oil and giving the money to the poor  (Jn 12: 1- 11)

Notice then Jesus” reaction and words. Jesus then says to Judas “you will always have the poor but you will not always have me”.

Jesus places importance of devoting costly things to God over the poor”

Throughout most of history the two richest classes of people were the King and his highest ranked nobles and the priesthood.  Even today, being a church is extremely lucrative.  Investing in a magnificent building was just an expression of that wealth and corruption.
