Start the process by logging your food--build yourself a little spreadsheet and see what it is you are ACTUALLY eating every day. You will begin to see patterns--what you eat, what kinds of food, how often, how MUCH. Most people do not know what a portion really is. You can find that out very easily by measuring what it is you're putting on your plate.
There are no easy ways to lose weight--but there are a lot of easy ways to eat BETTER--which will almost always result in permanent weight loss. One good and easy method is the "Plate" method--for every meal divide up your plate into fourths--and eat two of those sections in vegetables, one in meat or protein, and one in carbs like bread or rice or grains. If you section each meal like this, you will automatically be eating a greater amount of the foods that are better for you and fill you up, and you'll eat less of the more calorie-dense foods. Don't start any reform to your meals by cutting out any foods at all--when you do that, you begin to crave them--and you can eat more. Eat anything you want--but change the way you portion out your food. If you want a dessert, eat a SMALL dessert--not a huge one.
