Number one contributing factor to body size is genetics, so find different birth parents.
Secondly - Calories in, calories out. If you take in less that you burn, you will lost weight. It is easier to eat fewer calories by buying foods which are lower in calories such as fresh veggies low in sugars. Fruit is usually packed with sugar, and high in calories. You can have a bit, but limit fruit to that one time a day when you are craving something sweet, such as desert. Don't keep junk in the house. If there is no ice cream or chips in the house, then you can't just cave so easily. Do not keep it around.
Exercise helps burn more calories, but food intake will make more difference than anything.
