Depends on the size of the yard and the type of mower you can by. Honda (the vaunted HR215 series) makes the best gas mowers by far, and electrics are to be avoided unless you can get a high end cordless one. We have a husqvarna rechargable mower which works great but is impossible to find now. It failed in the marketplace due to its extreme cost, but it is a great electric mower. For a medium to small yard it is great.<br />

In terms of pollution, it's hard to derive based on the numerous methods of electricity generation used in this country. Honda mowers are cleaner than most, however.

electric mower with a cord is cheaper but is a very annoying, because of the cord. I would say – gas mower is a better call

Listen to Nick. Electric mowers are a PAIN. I got one that is rechargeable, but it takes so much energy to mow, that my small yard never makes it in one recharge. Gas is dirtier and a tad dangerous, but the only way to go.
