Does Skyy vodka really work?
They say it prevents hangovers because it lacks some umpurities. Has anyone really tried hard to get a hangover with Skyy but couldn't?

You will get hangovers if you drink enough of anything, but vodka is about the best thing you can drink, and Skyy or other vodkas that actually come in glass bottles are the best to avoid hangover. You will not likely experience a difference in hangover between Skyy and other vodkas, though.
Impurities do make a hangover worse, specifically what are known as congeners, which are by products of fermentation. The lighter your drink, the fewer congeners as a general rule.
Fruit distillates (like cognac) are especially high in congeners and give a really bad hangover, as does Sotch according to an abstract published a number of years ago in a nutrition journal. As it turns out aging in charred oak barrels (which gives flavor to aged spirits like whisky and grape brandies) actually adds congeners to a spirit rather than filtering them out, but it also adds flavor.
So as much as I like a well aged brandy (my favorite drink) or Scotch, these beverages are the worst for hangover in comparison with other spirits, and vodka is probably the best.

This is a link to an abstract of a study to find a method for measuring congener content in brandies added by aging in charred oak barrels. Oh, you can definately get a hangover from Skyy vodka. Trust me.
You can get a hangover from any vodka.... but it IS true that fine vodkas like Skyy, Grey Goose, and other premium vodkas do give you less of a hangover than other liquors and cheap vodkas

The less impurities that a liquor has the less intense your hangover will be. A premium liquor will filter its product several times with a charcoal filter in order to remove as much as it can. In addition many liqiors such as bourbon and scotch are allowed to age in oak barrells lined with charcoal in order to remove more impurities over time. The charcoal will absorb the imperfections. So the best liqours are the ones that filter the most and age their product. I have heard that as far as vodka goes Grey Goose is the best.

Many times hangovers are caused by dehydration which will happen regardless of the type/brand of alcohol consumed.

high-end booze will give you less of a hangover than cheap booze, in general. it does not matter if it is vodka or scotch, it just depends on the quality of the alcohol.
