I have two black labs, who shed constantly. And I have about 1600 square feet of hardwoods. I have a Dyson DC14 Animal (the purple one), which I love.
However, nothing is more practical or effective for hardwoods than a common broom. I can actually sweep those floors faster and better using a broom than I can a vacuum.
