What are the disadvantaages of a jury system?
As an American, I can not understand why anybody would support a justice system that does not utilize juries to seek the truth. But in many parts of the world, judges, not juries, decide the fate of criminals. One such example, is the Saddam Hussein trial. Three judges will decide his future.
If you live in a country that does not utilize juries, what are the reasons that you support your system of justice?

Jury trial is susceptible to typical biases that a vast majority of the public holds. It also becomes subjective and inconsistent. Composition of the jury, instead of nature of the alleged crime and the letter of law, becomes a critical factor in judgments. For a write-up on why jury trial was abolished in India, read

Juries offer collaboration, intimidation, and the group can single out weak people and make them beleive thier views. Also unless someone really wants to be on a jury, it usually is the people who are too dumb to get out of jury duty that are on the juries. And only in cases where they can be famous for being a jury (like the michael jackson case) do people even care.
And when that happens, most people will exploit thier position for personal gain and always have some bias.
So the jury system can be VERY corrupt.

I don't know if I would trust judges after that judge in Vermont that let that rapist off with just sixty days.
Part of the problem is too many Americans don't see jury duty as their civic duty. So the people who are actually intellegent enough to sit on a jury find excuses, thus getting a subpar jury.
