  • In order to defer student loan repayments, can I stay in school forever?

I have done the math, and the cost of attending community college part time, would be less than the interest on my student loans.

Here is an example of my situation: Upon graduating, the annual interest on my subsidized student loans will be about $1,500 per year. The cost of attending part time (6 hours) at a local junior college works out to about $1,000 per year after costs of books, fees, etc. So, I would save $500 per year by attending junior college and deferring my interest.

    Now it gets even better…

I can deduct only $2,500 a year in student loan interest. Based upon my total outstanding loans, I will have much more than that from only my unsubsidized loans. So, I would get no tax deductions from paying the interest on my subsidized student loans. However, if I go to junior college, I could deduct my education expense.

Now, I am not planning on never paying back my student loans. I hope to work, go to JuCo and pay my loans at the same time.

  • What is the logic behind denying the right of illegal immigrants to obtain a driver's license?

This place is a hot bed of anti-immigrant sentiment, so I figure I can get a decent answer.

The State of Texas does not allow illegal immigrants to obtain Texan driver's licenses? Why?

Does anybody think that there are Mexicans that say to themselvess "I would like to go to America to work 14 hour days. I can entered the United States simply by swimming across the river. But, I won't be able to get a driver's license in Texas. Might as well stay here in Mexico."

I don't think the bar is a detterent to immigration at all. However, it is a bar to obtaining car insurance. Lets say that if an illegal immigrant could get a driver's license, there is a 1% that he will get car insurance. Wouldn't it be better to have 1% of illegal immigrants to have car insurance than 0%?

  • Is this a vague question? (Please see description)?

Please look at this question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=10060111038...

and tell me if the two responses were warranted as to my limited ability to ask easy to understand questions or the answerer limited ability.

Basically, is it my fault that the two posted answers do not answer my questions?

  • Easy question for American users!!?

I just wanted to do a quick sample of the political tendencies of the people that use this site. If I could get ten responses to the question below, it would allow us to know the political beliefs of the Yahoo Answers users.

So, what political party do you usually vote for in American elections?

Simple one word answers are more than adequate. The tenth answer will get my vote and close the question.

    Thanks!

  • What languages have a verb that means "To email"?

In English, one could say "Bob emailed Tom." However, in Italian you would have to say "Bob ha mandato un email a Tom." If the verb "to email" existed, you could theoretically say "Bob ha emailato Tom."

Out of curiosity, are there any languages, besides English, that allow for the "to email" as a verb instead of saying the equivalent of "Bob sent an email to Tom."?

Also, if you know of any other new verbs that have entered your language, I would be more than happy to hear them. For example, in English, we have "to fax," "to IM," and even "to google."

I hope no other language has sunken to point where "I googled myself" can be translated easily.

  • Are there any plans to make a version of Yahoo! Answers in other languages?

I think that it would be very simple, and Yahoo could allow searches of multiple versions of Yahoo! answers. It is obvious that English is not the first language of many of the people using this service.

  • Why do Republicans hate illegal immigrants?

Why do Republicans hate immigrants so much?

Immigrants come to this country and are forced to take lower paying jobs.

If I was a rich Republican fat cat with a degree from Yale, I would never fear that an immigrant could ever steal my job. I would want more immigrants to provide cheap labor for my company. Honestly, what is the harm is a poor immigrant wants to come to America?

  • Requirements to be "Hispanic"?

What would you say are the minimum requirements to consider yourself “Hispanic”? Here is my hypothetical, based upon a friend…

My friend’s parents were born in Italy and moved to Argentina when they were about 18. After ten years in Buenos Aires, they decided to move to America, where my friend was born. He speaks fluent Italian, Spanish, and English. Has “triple” citizenship. While an American at heart, and “racially” Italian, he claims that having Argentinean citizenship “Hispanicizes” him and allows him to be considered a Hispanic for college purposes.

I personally think that race is arbitrary and people should be evaluated “by the content of their character,” but colleges do not follow Dr. King’s advice and for my friend the ability to be Hispanic is worth scholarship money.

So, is my hypothetical person “Hispanic”? What would say are the guidelines in claiming to be “Hispanic” for college admissions?

I asked a question about military service and got this response:

“ u and every educated poeple should do sum politics in order to change all these corrupted politicians from G.W.Bush to oil mafia lords(mr. **** cheney) “

Look at all of the mistakes!!! He uses “u,” misspells people, some, and does not understand noun/adjective order.

  • Any travel experiences from Libya?

I am considering visiting Libya next summer. I have been to Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt so I have a basic understanding of the region.

Does anybody have any comments on visiting Libya? How does it compare to the countries listed above? Will English, French, and Italian be enough to get by? My Arabic is horrible and I can’t read it at all.

Basically, I have about ten days for a short visit. I plan on eventually spending an entire summer in the Middle East, but I would like to wait until Iraq calms down before visiting Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza.

If Libya is not a good choice, where would you suggest? I will be living in Rome for the summer and would prefer a unique place with a direct flight from FCO. I have already been to most of the usual locations in Europe.

  • Why would anyone join the military today?

Why would anyone join the United States military right now? In times of peace, I can easily understand why some less fortunate men and women would choose the military as an easy way to get an education and gain invaluable experience. But, times have changed.

Joining the army today means near definite deployment in Iraq. This is paramount to suicide. If a person is desperate to make a salary and is willing to go to Iraq, wouldn’t a better (and higher choice) be to work for a private contractor in Iraq?

I just can not imagine volunteering to work in such a dangerous place when there are much better opportunities for employment here in the United States.

  • Why are flight to Italy so much?

I need to book a flight with Continental from Houston to Rome for the summer. Why does a ticket to Rome (or Milan) cost significantly more than a ticket to Berlin, Frankfurt or Paris when all flights are about the same distance?

Wouldn’t common sense dictate that the price of a ticket is basically based on the distance of the journey? Assuming that dates of travel, number of stops and airline are held constant.

  • What are the disadvantaages of a jury system?

As an American, I can not understand why anybody would support a justice system that does not utilize juries to seek the truth. But in many parts of the world, judges, not juries, decide the fate of criminals. One such example, is the Saddam Hussein trial. Three judges will decide his future.

If you live in a country that does not utilize juries, what are the reasons that you support your system of justice?

I hold Italian citizenship as well as American. Since I spend most of my time in America, do I have any obligations to the Italian State?

  • Travel Restrictions of Citizens..?

The United States Government does not allow American citizens to visit Cuba, North Korea, or Iran without special permission from the Department of the Treasury. I understand that many foreigners are subject to obtain visas from the country that they wish to visit, but do any countries force its citizens to receive prior permission from there home countries.

For example, I know that a Russian citizen needs an American visa to visit America, but does a Russian citizen need permission from the Russian government as well?
