Is there such thing as movies for kids?

I'm talking about movies that make it to the theater. I hear (and read) people saying that Disney movies are for kid, animation are for kids and don't even start with Harry Potter, but what is so "kiddish" about any movie? I do mean any.

Update:

Has anyone ever thought of Lord of the Rings as a movie for kids since it's all magical and mystical?

Well you mention Disney, animation and Harry Potter, so maybe you are answering your own question. These options generally have a fantastic element in them and involve child or child-like characters. Children respond well to something they can relate to and also to an imaginary realm. That doesn't mean adults don't enjoy them too. After all, parents should be watching the movies with their kids so they shouldn't be torture for adults.

I really don't think any movies are really specifically for kids because they all have something in them that kids won't understand. Things like 'adult jokes.'Besides, if they're kids' movies then why do adults watch them?
