Can't we all just get along?

I mean, we all have differences in our opinions, religions, and faiths. Does that mean that we have to disrespect each other when posing or answering questions-- ESPECIALLY under the Religion & Spirituality category?

Update:

I have been reading your answers, and I am so happy to see that so many have taken the time to respond. I agree that NO-- I don't think it's going to happen either. It is unfortunate that that is the way of the world.

Perhaps it is necessary for conflict. In music, theorists talk about "tension" and "conflict" in classical works and a final "resolution" on the final cadence. Perhaps composers are simply mirroring what really goes on in the world around them. Like the sweet sound of a last chord in a majestic orchestral piece, I look forward to the sweet sound of the last trumpet sounding when I hope to hear my Lord say "Well done, My good and faithful servant. Welcome Home". Ahhhhhhhhh, what a cadence THAT will be!

I'm with serf on this one. It is a nice thought, but there are too many teenagers ignoring their homework assignment and plucking on the computer. All they have is all this hatred and presupositions that they want to vent. Then there are the cult members who cannot see past their own propaganda. I refuse to comprimise the truth with them, but I always try to be respectful. Wink does not agree with me because he is a member of Jehovah Witness, but he is respectful and mature. Others, who will remain nameless, are rude and arrogant.

You can suggest we all get along, but it ain't going to happen. Best thing? Ignore the rude and cult people. Don't answer, don't give them attention. If they cross a line, "report abuse".

You are right! Just because I believe something does not mean that I do not respect someone else for not believing the same as I do! I have friends who are from all walks of life and we have just agreed to disagree on some things! If my opinion is asked about something, though, I will answer it...and I will answer it the way that I want! If not, I keep my mouth shut about certain subjects!

How could everyone just get alone?

Jews, Christians, and Muslims disagree are almost everything. Muslim's religion has nothing in common with Christianity. And Jews/Christians war about Scripture... they can't agree and Jews end up with hatred.

and Pagans (no offensive here)?? I can't even begin there... our world is like a glass plate that someone dropped on the floor!

its just... too broken to glue/etc back together.

As long as there is difference, no one will be getting along, REGARDLESS of religion. People make fun of and hate eachother for simple things such as hair color, eye color, dress(the clothing they wear), and an assortment of other things. That's just looks. But then when two people see something differently or believe different things, there is more arguing and of the such. As long as people cannot learn to accept others as they are for who they are, there will be constant fighting... ESPECIALLY under the Religion & Spirituality category.

Youre right. Us christians especially should make a mental note to be more respectful of people. However the idea of everyone "getting along" is highly unlikely. Especially since it is one underlying theme of the Bible. Things wont get better till our Lord comes back. In the mean time, we Christians better do a better job of being the salt of the earth.

i think that many people will be able to get along despite the different beliefs. it is true some people are brought up to hate others of a different religion. even best friends with the same culture and belief have little disagreements. if everyone(even if it wont happen) agreed there would be 'perfect' peace but try thinking of all the good things about having disagreements with your friends. you dont have to agree you just have to accept that that is what they believe.

    Here’s another possibility to ponder.

With myself, I have learned that to "get along" with others, I had to learn to get along with myself. In other words, there are two things in life that NEEDS to be fully understood.

    1) WHAT SHOULD BE; and

    2) WHAT IS.

I spent a lot of time bending others ears with what should be that I lost all reality as to what actually was, whether I AGREED with it or not. I was called on my attitude for a reality check especially in the area of religion/politics (smile!).

Recognizing what "was", allowed me to acknowledge the existence of and to appreciate a "snake", both for its inherent beauty and at the same time, respect it for its potential danger. In essence, I no longer disliked, hated, cast out, etc. the snake, but I didn't sleep with him either.

Now the “snake” could be anything or anyone in life, but lets all remember who created the “snake”…

    Child, that will never happen.

Jesus is the way of the truth... as long as people reject him... delight in wickedness... or remain deceived, there will always be disrespect.

The unspiritual man persecutes the spiritual man... and so on. There will never be "peace" in this world system. This world system will have to die for there to be real peace.

For if I am to remain true to ADONAI, my Lord and my God... I can not accept Islam, or whatever as valid. Indeed, Islam is not valid. And you need to understand that there is “rebuke” and there is “disrespect.” God rebukes individuals, because he loves them. But disrespecting a human being who is made in the image of God… is a different matter.

Indeed, a rebuke feels unpleasant… it may hurt one’s feelings… but a rebuke is a form of discipline… God rebukes because he desires you to be forgiven and share in his holiness.

I do not have hatred for Muslims, instead, I hate their allah… he is the one who has deceived them. I taunt allah… he has no power over me… and he can do nothing to me, that my God cannot stop. My God has power over all the other so called “gods” or “goddesses.”

We can't all just get along because some people don't have RESPECT. as an Asian American, I have seen a lot of disrespect from people who would mock me because of my ethnicity. It is NOT going to happen. Some people were raised to hate other people. It doesn't matter if we have a difference of opinion or religion.

Nice thought but it isn't going to happen. This is much like life with the same kinds of interactions. Look out in the 'real world' much of the same kinds of stuff goes on. While it is in our power to do it the possibility is dim at best.

Sure we can all get along. Some people are just plain out ignorant and we have to learn to work around them. That's always going to be an issue when it comes to politics and religion. Let's face it.
