I am a Neontal ICU nurse....32 weekers have very good prognosis...not to say that some problems cannot occur (I would be lying). They are still early but usually do well. Your baby born at 32 weeks will not be able to eat by mouth yet and will have to be fed through a little tube that goes into their mouth to their belly for a couple of weeks (usually until between 34 and 35 weeks) and usually have an IV for needed fluids for a while. They do not have suck, swallow and breathe coordination allowing them to breast or bottle feed until 34 to 35 weeks. They may need a little help with breathing as well. You can usually count on taking these babies home around 37-38 weeks or definitely by their due date! 36 weeks is considered NEAR TERM, but, NOT TERM!!!!!!!! Do not let this confuse you. These babies may go home with you however they will need close follow up by a pediatrician within 24-48 hours of leaving the hospital secondary to feeding issues and especially JAUNDICE!! Untreated jaundice can lead to brain injury! Very important to wake these babies to feed every 2 to 3 hours b/c they will sleep ALOT! However, know that your child has a very good prognosis past 32 weeks gestational age! Please feel free to email me with any questions! best of luck!

I've known of cases of babies born at 26, 28 or 30 weeks doing just fine. At 32 to 36 weeks, the chances for survival are very good!

My daughter, Miranda Hope, was 30 weeks (3 lbs 14oz). She spent a month in the hospital and only that long because she had apnea. She came home on a monitor. She is now 3 years old, you would never know she was a premie. There was a baby born 23 weeks and amazingly she did make it. 32 -36 weeks is not that early anymore.

36 weeks is considered full term by many OBs now. At 32 weeks, your baby will probably spend an extra day or two in the hospital. There are very good chances for survival past 30 weeks.

More than 98 percent of babies born at this time survive. Most weigh between 3 and 7 pounds, and most appear thinner than full-term babies. Some can breathe on their own, and many others just need supplemental oxygen to help them breathe. Some can be breast- or bottle-fed, although babies born at less than 34 weeks or having breathing difficulties will probably need tube-feeding. Babies born after about 34 weeks are unlikely to develop serious disabilities resulting from premature birth, though they may remain at increased risk of subtle learning and behavioral problems.

Yes... that baby will live.
My nephew was a premature baby... he stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks. Of course you can't tell he was a premature baby now.
It's a wonder he's even alive... My sister didn't know she was pregnant until not even a day before he was delivered. She was always skinny and working out and she was on birth control the whole time...
My nephew is doing perfecting well (a little hyper), so I think that your baby will be perfectly fine!

Certainly, but this may require a bit of medical attention.
There have been babies born at 25 weeks, but this is very dangerous and requires a great deal of medical attention for quite some time.

It is better if they are able to wait longer, but they have a real chance at 32 weeks or more. That chance is even better if it is a girl...they have a fighting spirit.
