I am looking into buying a Cocker within the year or so. (Hopefully!)

I grew up with this breed and adore them. One of my last ended up with a terrible case of hip dysplasia. We never, ever suspected this in the breed. Is this a common issue? This particular pooch was a rescue dog, who we loved very, very much, but I never want to see another dog go through this misery.
