In I Corinthians 4:13, what does it mean when it says we are as the filth of this world?

    I truly believe what Paul is saying is basically that we need to humble ourselves to the point of utter humiliation and subjection before God and man. This is because we recognize our our helplessness. Remember, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (James 4:6)

    Paul is specifically talking about how he and his co-workers were treated as missionaries. This is clear from verse 9.

    We are the ONLY things on earth that sin. Without humans, the earth would be "perfect" in god's eyes, because there would be no sin.

    This is just my opinion but I think this means that when people curse us, abuse us, hurt our feelings and so on, we are suppose to turn the other cheek and be kind to them and if we don't then we are no better then they are.
