Ever hear someone say 'Jesus H. Christ' ? What's the H. stand for?

Mostly the old-timers say it. My grandpa was a big fan of the 'Jesus H. Christ' saying. Anyone?

It's one of those jokes that was supposed to be funny the first few times, and then just lost its funniness. It was intended to make fun of our society in a way, how technical we are. No longer was it OK to just say Jesus Christ, but now it's Jesus H. Christ. (It could've been Jesus P. Christ or Jesus O. Christ, but the "H" just stuck).

Well, for one thing "Christ" is not a name. It's Greek for savior. His name was (in modern English) Jesus of Nazareth, or (in Hebrew) Yesueh Ha Nazarite.

I thought it Jesus F. Christ? The F stands for a popular slang word for sex.

This is just what I've read, but as I understand it, it has to do with mistaking the Greek letter "eta" as an "H," appearing in the Greek monogram for Christ, which is either "IHC" or "IHS."

Well it ain't respectful, but I will tell you what the H. stands for.

The full name of Jesus in Hebrew is Yeshua BenYoseph HaNazarite. His rank is Yeshua HaMashiach. So that "middle" name is "Ha!" which is what He will say to those who use His name that way.

Source(s): Psalm 37:13 The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.
