A Disciple Is one who follows a particular Discipline, An Apostle is "One Sent Forth". Gospel says "there was a man sent by God" this was John the Baptist. He was in fact "God's Apostle, and Jesus' 12 Disciples, became the 12 Apostles when He sent them to the cities He planned to visit.

Disciples are people who are preparing themselves for a Goal. Disciples you find everywhere around the world in every School. An Apostle is a Disciple who already has enough of preparation to teach, the "First in the Class", if you prefer.

Disciples are normal people who follow after God and learn His ways. I think apostles are those who go out and teach and show others God so that others can become disciples of God(then maybe later apostles-which bring in more disciples) :) Hope it helped! God Bless!

No one has mentioned it yet so I'll just clarify one more distinction: Apostles no longer exist. They were the disciples of Jesus Christ Himself and had a unique role in history which did not survive them and was not passed on to others. No one claiming to be an "apostle" today (especially the Roman Pope) actually has any legitimate claim to the title.

A disciple is a learner or follower, one who follows Jesus Christ.

    Mt.10:1; Lk 6:13

An apostle is one of the disciples chosen by Jesus (Mt.10:2-4) or certain other early Christian leaders (Acts 14:14; Rom 16:7; Gal 1:1).
