Women who don't shave?

Why do people get so upset when they see a woman who doesn't shave? I mean really, why does anyone care what other people do with their body?

My theory is that most women are threatened by other women being confident about their bodies because they are insecure, especially when they see another woman who looks unconventional and is confident.

This has to do with cultural differences and preferences. The United States has a society that finds women who don't shave to be consistent with a taboo. Here it is not socially acceptable to not shave whereas in European countries it may not be. And yes within these social bounds insecurity does play a part. Faced with the pressures to conform many individuals cannot understand why another would not do the same. They may be threatened by the ability of the other to remain and be confident without doing so. All I can tell you is don't let others tell you what to do and don't let judgements cause you to change your values or ideas.

I personally don't shave...I don't have to worry about breaking out, stubble etc. American women are the only women who do this useless task and I often ask why? Here is an article i found.....I also read someplace that a razor company started the "trend" as to boost their sales....Useless I say!!

Why do women in America shave their legs? How and when did this practice get started? Columnist Cecil Adams did a little research and found out that a certain magazine in 1915 may be at least partially to blame.

Harper's Bazaar showed an ad for a new sleeveless dress with a model dangling her arms over her head, with underarms suddenly bare and smooth, naked for all to see. The caption read, "Summer Dress and Modern Dancing combine to make necessary the removal of objectionable hair."

When the down-to-earth, bourgeois McCall's showed hairless underarms two years later, a trend --- or rather, cultural revolution -- had begun. The trend of women shaving their legs occurred quite a bit later, when hemlines hiked up and stockings were worn. Hair showing through nylon pantyhose was considered unsightly by many people; soon after, manufacturers started to market razors for women en masse.

America's western cousins across the pond in Europe are even starting to see their women shave their legs and under their arms, a trend that is relatively new by American standards. There is a common perception that European women, with the possible exception of those in the English-speaking British Isles, do not make it a practice to shave at all. Having recently lived in Germany and England, I can attest to the fact that this is not entirely true. Many young European women are beginning to shave under their arms and their legs as well, although you still certainly see women of all ages with hair left in its natural state on legs and arms alike. As far as I could tell, British women seem to share the North American cultural preference for clean-shaven legs and arms.

Because of reality. We live in a world where women are under alot of pressure to look perfect, shave, etc.I wouldn't get upset,it's none of any body's business. There is no problem with women who don't shave. They're just going natural.I agree with your theory.

You know what? I wish shaving armpits wouldnt be a problem with women because I AM VERY TIRED OF DOVE COMMERCIALS with all these women shaving and talking about their armpits, cmon PEOPLE.

and to answer your question, because society has a strict idea of how everyone else should be. Its not a law but its just like one. if you dont shave, you are weird, and will be treated weird.

I think you're absolutly correct. Women only care about what they look like because other women worry about what they look like.

Personally, I think its better if women do shave but, all-in-all, I don't really care. If they don't want to shave they don't hane to. I think things like that should only be considered with yourself in mind. That is, unless you are considered offensive to others.

I think the women should shave because it is the normal thing to do and also to be a clean person.

it depends on what you mean by dont shave. underarms, moustache (if any) and legs are the normal things that american women shave anything else is up to the women.

because it has to do with them getting the guys and they feel that men will not go for a hairy woman

    What aren't they shaving?

The legs had better be smooth, sorry.

And no mustache. Anything else, I don't care - do whatever.

It's our standard of beauty- and each culture has its own. In ours, women should not be hairy.
