There is a site called freecycle.com People list what they have & what they want, then arrange to pick it up. There are many, many local chapters all over the US. It works and it is too cool.

The best thing to do is do a search for each item specifically. You need a dummy email account and use that id when surfing, that does direct all the spam to your dummy account instead of your real one. Be careful about giving out personal info...don't forget about identity theft!
