Why were B-17s only used in the European Theater of WWII?

I have always wondered why in WWII the B-17s were used in Europe, and the B-29s in the Pacific. Many other aircraft were used in both - P47 for one.

Especially since the big B-29 raids didn't start until 1945, why weren't some B-17s pulled over from Europe?

So whats the deal?

The early models were used in the pacific theatre also, just not as extensivly, because we didn't have island bases close enough to japan for the B-17 to be used to bomb Japan. Instead

Boeng built the B-29 Superfortress, which did have the range. Hope that answers it for ya

Ps. The B-29 is the type that dropped the two atomic bombs
