What is the recovery time for having your gall bladder removed? Are you in a lot of pain afterward?

It depends on which surgery you have. I had mine removed three years ago as an emergency - I had pancreatitis. I had the surgery where they do four small incsions and it was easy. I was out of the hospital the next day, back to normal in no time. I had absolutely no pain after, did not take one thing for pain. I suppose I was aware of the four little incisions, but they are truly small.

However, if they do the big incision, it is major surgery and recovery is slower and longer. I would be trying for the smaller surgery if I were you and if you have a choice. In our area it is rare to hear of someone having the major surgery now for gall bladder removal. I think the newer procedure is called laparoscopy.

I hope this helps. Good luck with it!

The day after surgery I went to work. I just took it really easy and didn't lift anything. I worked for a pre-school at the time. I was a little sore. Hurt a lot more before the surgury.
