in The Republic, Plato illustrates a system of government in which there is a special class of Philosopher Kings who's business it is to run the government. They are paid to do so, and can dedicate themselves to learning about laws and finding out what's best for the people as a whole. Rome was a republic (for a time, before Ceasars took over and make it an Empire) with the citizens electing representatives. This is part of the basis for the United States Government, which is actually a Republic. ("and to the Republic for which it stands...") The fact that America is a Republic has nothing to do with the Political Party of the Republics. Democrats don't intend to change our system away from being a Republic. I consider myself a Conservative and vote Republican because I feel they're stance on financial issues is better.

It seem he's feferring to America under the influence of what they call ascribed status. All for some and none for others. (a true republican regime)It will probably always be hard for u to understand your friends position it takes a certain mind set that sociologist call Institutionalized deviance, a good exampleof that would be-his true republic America

America already emulates certain aspects of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.

Why? Other countries try to emulate America. The people's Republic of China? Please, give me a break.

There's nothing wrong with our system. If people are so unhappy they should move to China or to the Republic of

El Congo. Peace and love for all.

We don't need to emulate anyone - we are already the model for freedom in the world.
