I take a head of garlic and cut the top of it off to expose the garlic then I pour olive oil on it and wrap it in foil and put it in the oven at 350 for about 40 minutes but if you have a garlic roaster you may not need the aluminum foil.

Fast easy way to roast some garlic cloves on the stovetop.

Separate the cloves but DO NOT peel them. Put the UNPEELED cloves in a dry skillet on low or medium heat. Stay nearby so that you can smell the roasting smell. Every couple of minutes, shake the pan around or stir it, so that different surfaces of the garlic cloves come into contact with the pan.

You may notice some blackend, burned spots on the garlic cloves, and THAT'S OKAY. Just don't let the whole side of a clove blacken. The reason it's okay is that THE PART THAT BURNED IS THE PEEL.

When you think they are roasted enough, just dump them out of the pan into something that can take the heat. Wait til they cool, then peel the cloves. If you did it right, the peels might be burnt a lot, but the garlic cloves themselves will be burnt only a little bit, if at all.

Voila! you're done, without heating up the whole oven or making an oily mess or poaching them in milk or any other dish-dirtying procedure. The dry pan you used needs nothing except maybe a rinse if you left a lot of black residue.
