What's the most useful free download you've found on the internet?

Update:

Wow! These are all great suggestions! I had only been using my PC for research and for Yahoo Answers, but now a whole new world has been opened up to me. Thanks everybody...

I feel really guilty that I can't spread the points around for this one, so many of you deserve to be chosen as best answer, but I'll have to go with...

Limewire, Edonkey, Zone Alarm, and Avast (Those aren't supposed to be free though. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone! And yes, I use the premium Limewire. :D)

For stuff that is really free I'm glad I can get Java and Java updates for free. (*sings* "Because I loooovvvveee to chat, mmmmmm baby, mmmmmmm baby!")

If you ask me about the single most useful download on the internet, I would say 'Zone Alarm Firewall' hands down. This award winning firewall is the best bet to fight against all the spywares, hidden downloads & intrusions to your computer. Ever since, I installed it, I have seen a remarkable increase in the speed and stability of my system.

The second on my list would be AVG Free Antivirus. It has a clean interface and I found it better than the Norton Antivirus.

I would also recommend VLC media player, it can play nearly everything. The only drawback(?) I saw in it is that it has a bit too plain interface.

I would also like to mention "Yahoo! Messenger", "Winamp" and "Lavasoft Ad Aware SE Personal Antispyware".

Hey! I am getting a feeling that I am missing out on something, Yea, hey, how can I forget the fantabulous "Mozilla Firefox"! It is just the best if there is. Though I get a feel that as soon as IE 7.0 comes out of Beta, Firefox will get the toughest competition ever but, for now, Firefox rules!

My choice would have to be Zone Alarm, and Ad Aware by Lavasoft. I feel like they really put me in control of my PC. I never knew of the hidden programs that were getting on line when I turned my computer on. I love the way they are both so easy to use, and they have wonderful features.

Those are the first things I download when I have a new computer, or when friends and family have a new one.

Firefox browser. It is so well supported, does so many things and all of them are better than Internet Explorer by Microsoft. Upgrades are constantly being added, too. So it keeps getting better. It is the way the internet is supposed to work.

That's easy the iTunes music service. You don't have to pay a monthly subscription charge for iTunes music service as you do with Napster,Rhapsody,Musicmatch ,Real, and others.Yes you pay for whatever tracks or albums you download but no monthly fee is nice. And iTunes has the Billboard year by year top hits to sample ,the others don't.

and no I don't have an iPod!!

For me it would have to be XAMPP. It'll parse my php documents and includes a MySQL database. Without it, I'd have to upload all the content to my website first to see if it worked and then go about fixing it in a tedious process.

My choice hands down would have to be Winamp. Forget Real Player or WMP, Winamp can be customied better. It really whips the llama's ****.
