I would say it's fine now. Most people say no blankets for babies because of SIDS--young babies won't move or turn if they are being suffocated, but toddlers will. Where I am (WI), the child care licensing law says they can't have any stuffed animals or fluffy blankets until they reach their first birthday.

Definitely by 20 months, your child will be fine with a blanket. By 20 months, my son was out of his crib and into a toddler bed, so he had to have a blanket to keep warm. I would say that by the time your child can walk, it would be fine to give a child a blanket.

around 24 mos. if it's terribly necessary. they usually won't need it if they don't get used to it when they're younger.
