Why won't my front USB ports detect my game controller?

I hate to answer a question with a question and I also hate to make assumptions about which OS you are using, but does the controller not show up when you go into the Control Panel and then into Game Controllers?

Why dont you plug in the controller in the Front USB and try restarting/rebooting the machine. If the controller works fine on back USB, I assume the drivers are working fine. If rebooting does not help try doing FIND NEW HARDWARE through Control Panel. I had the same trouble with scanner and printer plugged into other port than its usual. Restarting computer helped.

I once had the problem where all 4 my USB ports stoped working. Although I'm using a laptop, they weren't even picked up by the computer's hardware search.

It took us nearly a month to figure out what's wrong, and then one guy came and simply reset the computer's settings to default (don't ask me how to do that). And then, it was like magic. It worked!

Maybe it will work for you too, but if you say that other devices work fine on it, I doubt whether my answer might help. But do give it a try.
