They both have pros and cons.
Short=more fiesty generally, easier to cleanup, not as pleasant to touch.
Long=More laidback generally, Harder to cleanup, more cozy-cuddly
Longhairs are better as indoor cats, and shorthairs can go either way, though they generally prefer the out of doors.
Note, I have made some generalities here, based on the personalities of the majority of breeds under both headings.
And then again, there are always semi-longhairs!
I personally like both.

I have one of each. They both shed like a sumbitch, but the shorthair seems to have a much messier way of shedding. It gets all over the dang ol' place. The long hair sheds, but in tufts that come out in a more controlled manner. Get the cat you want, because unless the cat is hairless you'll be cleaning up cat hair regardless. I just bought a large lint roller at Target, about a foot long. Probably the wisest purchase I've made in ages.

Since I'm quite allergic to cats, mine are both short hair and I deal with the allergies. If there's more than 2 cats in a room I can't breathe.

Theres thousands of breeds of Short and Long hair cats.
Short hairs are good for people you have allergies. They also dont shed very much. Their hair doesnt need to be brushed daily like long hair cats. They dont vomit as often due to hairballs. They have a lower dander level.
Long haired cats arnt very good for people with allergies. They can be high shedders if their not brushed daily. Their hair can sometimes get matted it their not taken care of properly. They can get gairballs alot and vomit. Their dander levels are higher.
Both cats with long and short hair are great pets. But be sure you have the time to take care of a long haired cat before you buy one.

It's all merely a matter of personal preference. I have short hair and guys just like it. And i prefer a person with short hair over a man with long hair because long hair tends to make guys look as well girly.

I have both a short hair and a long hair cat. It doesn't really matter which. Although books, etc. say you sould brush long hair cats once a day, and short hair cats once a week, I don't brush them THAT often, and they both look fine.

Short, they're cleaner and you won't have as much hair around the house. Long haired cats shed like crazy and have a tendency to get knots in their hair.

They both can shed about same…just depends what length of hair you feel like vaccuming up. ;)
One of my shorthaired cats sheds worse than the rest and I have a long haired kitty that hardly sheds at all. I do not find any personality differences based on length of hair.
Source(s): My 15 cats are evenly divided between short and long haired coat lengths.
