Why do you ask?

If people do not want your opinion, why do they ask for it? Questions like: Is divine intervention real? Can prayer really help those in need? Is God real? I continue to answer these questions with my honest opinion: that god is a fictional character and the bible is a clever but outdated mythology. Stragely, people keep responding with "CORE you are dumb"- or much worse- simply because I answered their question with an opinion they found shocking or offensive. If these people were being honest, they would say right up front that they don't want answers or opinions, they just want to preach. Why do people keep asking questions they don't want answers to? Is there some gratifying aspect of rhetoric that I am missing? If an opinion contratry to your own is not welcome, should you be asking those questions in a public forum and then chastising others for answering? To me it seems like a trap- and intentional deception created just to cause harm. Your thoughts?

    Hey CORE,

While I don't agree with you on the Biblical issues, I definitely agree with you on the rest of your statement. One thing that I would add though, is that it is not just we Christians that do that. I have seen my fair share of "baiting" from the athiests, agnostics, Muslims, and every other group that think that they "have it right."

Anyway, thanks for making a good point, and here's to disagreeing without being disagreeable.

Sorry you are receiving responses like that. Of course, all opinions should be welcomed. However, the questions are posted under Religion and Spirituality and your response, "god is a fictional character and the bible is a clever but outdated mythology" marks you as one who cares little about religion OR spirituality. So actually, your coming here can be viewed as hostile in nature. Now if you were an atheist who wants to see why Christians or others think the way they do, as Wrathpuppet and a few others have done, we are more than pleased to give an account for the reasons why we believe what we do. It is not because of blind faith or ignorant lemming-like behavior. It is because there IS evidence that there is more dimensional goings on than just the physical, and that the Bible proves itself of being authored by Someone outside of our time domain. So if you are getting hostile replies to your answers, maybe you started it?

I like your answers as far as God being a fictional character & that the bible is a clever but outdated mythology... I never thought about it that way, you put perspective into my non religious self.

The reason people answer that way is because Religion or lack there of is still considered Taboo when you mention not believeing in God or other Gods. Religious people want you to side with them and do not want to hear the truth to the matters. Their only guidance is the bible, not life itself & learining from life's lessons. They want to read about these fictional characters and try to live by the "book", not by their own experiences. So keep giving honest answers, this is a public forum not a church!!

I disagree Schneb, C_O_R_E is not being disrespectful by stating his own beliefs. he is simply stating what he thinks as factfully as possible.

his answer pertains to religion and spirituality so why should he be left out of the discussion that he feels interested in.

besides, he mentioned that the questions he answered were "Is divine intervention real? Can prayer really help those in need? Is God real?"

i also think that he wasnt asking about whether or not there IS a divine power out there. he was asking about why he got discriminated

what's the matter with you people?! he wasn't being negative by voicing his own opinion! it's the same thing as an athiest asking a question and having the self-righteous shove their own faiths down his throat! like most of u are ding right here, right now!

look at how we are discriminited here. this person asked what we thought, yet she chose an explanation that explained HER beliefs, not OURS!

Contrary to popular belief, most people of faith are not mindless, babbling fools. Some, have spent decades looking at evidence of all kinds, evaluating various forms of spirituality, considering various philosophies, and even delving into mathematics and logic to arrive at the faith they are at today.

I very much agree with Schneb on this one. People will tend to respond negatively to your opinions in this forum because it is obvious that you do not have a genuine vested interest in religion and spirituality. And again, I agree with Schneb, if you have genuine questions (not asking just for the sake of being inflammatory), please ask away. There are many of us here who stand ready to 'give an answer for the faith that is within us'.

I think you're right, we do tend to feel validated by people who agree with us. Maybe we've started something significant right here in this forum: (2) people who completely disagree with each other, but respect each other's opinions. After all, if a person's beliefs can't stand up to a little scrutiny how strong can the conviction be? Congratulations to us both...it was a pleasure conversing with you.

Maybe people just want to hear what they think from others so that they know that they're not alone in their beliefs and many others think the same way. It is pretty rude to insult others for their opinions especially if you're asking. People just like hearing that others agree with them and when others disagree, they get "insulted."

The real question is, what are you doing in this category?

And the next real question is, if you are so knowledgable and full of wisdom, what don't you create life? Create something new that is alive Dr. Frankenstein. Oh by the way, use your own lightning.

I wanted to reply to you about the limpet box and don't know how apart from this way, sorry. I found the box mentioned on a megalithic Europe site and it doesn't say what it was used for. I've googled it and had no joy there either so thought I'd try this. Thanks for replying.

It's a goood way for them to argue with you. Some Christians are pushy and want others to see them as righteous. They forget the teachings in Romans!
