When you make immigration criminal, only criminals will immigrate?
With the legal channels for immigration to the US being as difficult and costly as they are to follow, are we setting ourselves up to receive an immigrant population who have no respect for the law?
If legal immigration were easier within the law, wouldn't we find that the US would attract more lawful immigrants?

1 AnswerOther - Entertainment1 decade agoSports fandom?
Has anyone spent much time in consideration of sports fandom?
I just asked a question about NASCAR fans, and I found that while a few were willing to attribute me innocent ignorance of the sport (not really accurate) most assumed I was a real idiot and couldn't figure out what made NASCAR so cool (er... "country" as one fan put it).
So, I'll try my question again here:
What causes someone to become a NASCAR fan? Drivers? Teams? Sponsors? Heritage?
3 AnswersOther - Social Science1 decade agoI don't get it- your favorite driver?
I don't understand how you can have a favorite driver. I hear this talk a lot- but it just doesn't make sense to me.
I can see if someone says they like Larry Bird more than Magic Johnson, or Ali more than Tyson. These atheletes are highly accomplished, but also represent tremendous diffierences in style and idiom.
But NASCAR drivers? Don't they all pretty much do the same thing? Maybe there's a little bit of room for personal style, but not much- the margin of error is too small for it!
So you people with a "favorite driver", help me understand, please. What makes them your favorite?

29 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWho set the price for sin and why?
The price of sin. The result of sin is death, the price of sin is sacrifice. Why? Why didn't god decide that the price of sin would be ... say... a jelly donut? When Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the Tree, why didn't god say "Ooooh you rascals you!" and laugh? Wouldn't life have been simpler then?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoWhy do you ask?
If people do not want your opinion, why do they ask for it? Questions like: Is divine intervention real? Can prayer really help those in need? Is God real? I continue to answer these questions with my honest opinion: that god is a fictional character and the bible is a clever but outdated mythology. Stragely, people keep responding with "CORE you are dumb"- or much worse- simply because I answered their question with an opinion they found shocking or offensive. If these people were being honest, they would say right up front that they don't want answers or opinions, they just want to preach. Why do people keep asking questions they don't want answers to? Is there some gratifying aspect of rhetoric that I am missing? If an opinion contratry to your own is not welcome, should you be asking those questions in a public forum and then chastising others for answering? To me it seems like a trap- and intentional deception created just to cause harm. Your thoughts?
