When you make immigration criminal, only criminals will immigrate?

With the legal channels for immigration to the US being as difficult and costly as they are to follow, are we setting ourselves up to receive an immigrant population who have no respect for the law?

If legal immigration were easier within the law, wouldn't we find that the US would attract more lawful immigrants?

yes, only around 30k mexicans can legally immigrate per year. no matter how strict they are on illegal immigrants, it's not going to stop the drug cartels who have unlimited funds and even submarines to transport drugs. so the only ones who pay are the ones seeking a better life. ideally we should allow many, many more legal immigrants.

The answer to our immigration policies is to enact a law that would make it illegal to be an illegal immigrant. This way if you were an illegal immigrant and got caught you would be in violation of the "National It's Illegal to be Illegal Law." However illegals who had previously been caught would not be subject to the law as this would be double jeopardy under previous laws.In these cases the now second or third time illegal would be deported to the French Riviera at government expense until his illegal entry into our country would be expunged from his record and his USA Citzenship Papers are cleared.

immigration is not criminal, or even unlawful.

there is a well defined legal path.

It would be easier if the the country wasn't constantly being over run with ILLEGAL immgrants, because we could allow more legal immigrants per year.

and we don't need to "attract" more lawful immigrants...we already have more people applying every year that we can let in. We don't need to "attract" even MORE applications.

What? The immigration process to the United States is not difficult at all.

I remember talking to a guy who immigrated here from Eritrea. He said that it was pretty easy and they just test you in basic American History.

Other countries have much more strict immigration policies.

The US has the most laid back immigration laws out there. Sneak into mexico illegally from S. America, you're looking at 2 years, try again, you're looking at 10 years. Sneak into N. Korea illegally, 12 years of hard labor. Sneak into Iran, hard jail time and probably the death penalty. Sneak into Afghanistan, get shot. Sneak into the USA, get a job, welfare, medical care, and rights in a country in which you are not a citizen.

The qualifier for LAWFUL IMMIGRANTS are thoes who follow the rules and immigrate lawfully. Not the ones climbing the fences.

I think that US no need so many immigrants anymore. We should cut on any type of immigration – illegal and legal.

May be it’s time to invest in our own kids and people instead of trying to get “ready to use” professionals.

Well the question is what to do with the millions of illegals who are already here we can't just round them up and ship them back also keep in mind those illegals are dependent on our tax welfare

So I would suggest government should legalize them depending on qualification and pose heavy fines and then they'll be granted a work visa

People are criminals simply for bypassing Immigration, no other criminal acts are needed.

sorry sport, we're already there, for like 50+ years...

a better question is why doesn't anyone enforce the law?
