Cronic Headache help?

My better half went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago with bronchitus, He was put on a antibiotic, and a codeine cough syrup, Hes over most of the sypmtoms other then this headache and he says its mostly in the front of his head, more like a sinus headache, weve tried almost every sinus medication on the market and for the most part its never taken away, hes developed a dry cough at night that keeps him up, any ideas on what he can do to take this headache away, or how do you know if its truely a sinus headache? Any help would really be awsome, hes not on medical insurance so going to the doc would really really hit our budget so he wont go unless he feels half way dead, its a man thing lol

Headaches can be caused by a number of things. the cough itself could be causing it just from the pressure . It could be a sinus infection if it feels like it's only in the sinus cavities ie; the forehead and the cheek bone area. there are also what's called cluster headaches which radiate from behind the eyes.

If it's the sinuses, they need to be dried out. If no over the counter thing helps ie:pseudafed pe is the best for pressure and drying. than they need an antibiotic. A dry cough means you need an expectorant cough medicine to get the gunk out and a suppressant at night to sleep. sometimes it just may take awhile for the sinuses to dry up, be patient. try a warm compress on the forhead (a wet towel in the microwave for a minute works well), or let the shower run hot and close the door, the steam will also help break it up. I'm a home remedy junkie, and I have sinus problems alot. hope this helps!

It could be a number of things, depending on the severity of pain and location. Migraines are an option if the pain is severe and light and/or sound bother you. Glasses could be needed if you get a headache after reading, using the computer, or driving at night. If you already have glasses, you might need prism added to the perscription to help with focusing. Tension headaches tend to be at the back of the head and neck, and they're stress related. There's also always the possibility of a serious brain issue, but most headaches are muscle related, not brain. Either way, if you have chronic headaches, you should see a doctor right away.

Sudafed Sinus Headache! Trust me on this one...I have severe sinus problems. It is the only thing that helps me get through the worst days, and it's no-drowsy so he can take it anytime during the day. And to help him sleep, he should try Tylenol PM.....I probably would never sleep a wink without it, b/c my sinuses drain when I lay down and I choke and cough all nite. The PM knocks me out for a good 6 hours at least. But if u have have questions about whether this is really a sinus problem, have him ask his doctor to do a CT scan. That is how they finally found my sinus problems. I really hope he finds some help, b/c I know I suffered for a long time thinking I had migraines, until I ended up in the ER one day in so much pain I thought I was dying, and the CT scan found my sinus trouble. From time to time, I have to take an antibiotic, b/c it flares up into a sinus infection, but for the most part the Sudafed helps.

If you want a natural solution. Try butterbur from the health food store. It is specifically meant for migranes. If it is sinus related you can get a neti pot and drain the sinuses that way. If he still cannot find a solution to his migranes he should get some tests done.

Sounds like he might be having withdrawal symptoms from the Codeine cough syrup.

The headache could be caused by the codiene.
