Foot problem: What is the cause of it, and how can I avoid it? (Read for details! ♥ )?
I've only ever found a few people who've felt this excrutiating pain before, so hopefully someone out there knows what I'm talking about!
It normally happens when you're sitting or laying - suddenly it feels like the bone that connects into your big toe is CROSSING OVER TOP of the toe next to it. It's excruitiating and you can't move your foot until it's done doing whatever it's doing.
What causes this? What's actually going on in there? Why does it happen!?
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!
♥
Nooo it's not a cramp. I've experienced many a cramp - and this is something a lot more severe. I'm pretty sure anyway. @_@

This is called a cramp or a charlie horse. What is happening is the ligament is tightening up and not releasing. You have to stand up and press your foot onto the floor hard until the ligament releases.
There are several causes for this but the most common is a lack of calcium, potassium or magnesium in your diet. You can help this with a glass of milk before bed, a banana as a night time snack or by taking a multi vitamin
Good Luck!

I would say your having a toe crampSome people get leg cramps now those are painful especially when they travel down the leg to the bottom of your foot and all your toes are affected.I find relief if I can get up real quick and put my bare foot on the cold floor.I had gone to a doctor once before and told him he put me on blood thinners he said it was from the circultion of blood going up and down my leg. They worked I don't have leg cramps anymore.I also wear support stocking too to help with the flow of blood in my leg.You should go see the doctor about your problem I'm sure he could help you so you don't suffer in pain anymore.Take care and Good Luck.....

It sounds like you're having either a muscle spasms, which that can be due to low potassium levels (eat some bananas; they have high potassium)....or it sounds like it could be what they call a "neuroma," which is related to the tendons and nerves in your foot. There isn't any real cause for a neuroma....but some sort of injury could help trigger it to start occuring. Go see a podiatrist and get x-rayed....they will be able to pretty much tell what is going on with an x-ray

Always difficult to make a diagnosis from limited information, but you may be experiencing a condition called "Carpal-Pedal Spasm". It is a form of very severe cramping in the foot. It is caused by Magnesium deficiency.
Best wishes.

I get the same thing but mostly when I swim but it's not a muscle cramp. Its happened a few times on dry land and it hurts like an SOB. You can literally see my toes/tendons overlap each other. Relaxing helps it most.
Here's some info I found on something called Extensor Tendonitis:

Hi I know what you are speaking of its not a cramp but similar its one of two things a mussel spasm or arthritis. There is no cure but heat and a good foot rub can make it happen less often

sounds like you may need to see a doctor about gout
Gout (also called gouty arthritis, Greek name: podagra, from pod - foot and agra - trap) is a form of arthritis caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in joints. It is an intensely painful disease, which in most cases affects only one joint (monoarthritis), most commonly the big toe.

It may be a form of fasciitis, an inflammation in the fascia of the foot. The fascia is a white fibrous covering for muscles and tendons.
