Why won't Yahoo software install on my computer?

I recently reformatted my computer with a fresh copy of Windows XP, installed service pack 1 (as stated in the system requirements for the Widget Engine), and attempted to install Yahoo Messenger and the Yahoo Widget Engine, however when I double click the installation program, my computer 'thinks' for a few seconds, then does nothing. After further investigation, the installer starts a process called "Glbxx" (xx being two random numbers or letters) and then the process crashes. I'm no newcomer when it comes to tech problems, but this one has stumped me. If anyone knows of a solution, please, point me in the right direction.

[edit]Might I add, this is a Windows XP operating system with a modified GUI and kernel, however the Widgets engine won't install even if I uninstall the modifications. I'm going to try installing SP2 to see what that does for me, but before I reinstalled Windows I had SP2 and it still wouldn't let me install the widgets engine, or yahoo messenger. Maybe Yahoo software hates my system.[/edit]

Update 2:

[edit] The resolution to my problem, for those of you with any interest, was to run the installer from the Administrator account. Even though my user account was member to the same user groups as Administrator, the Yahoo installer didn't recognize my user privileges. [/edit]

    It sounds more like your computer doesnt like something in the installer package. Maybe a quick email to support would open up more ideas for you.

    Did you have any problems installing it prior to formatting your machine?

    yahoo widgets can be installed only on windows service pack 3 and not on service pack 1.

    Make sure your firewall is letting them install as well

    you might have to turn it off while you install but don't forget to turn it back on!
