When you were little, what did your parents tell you about where "babies come from."?

My mom told me that the mother eats a seed and then out comes the baby. Pretty original, I think. But I bet she made it up on the spot.

What did your parents tell you first? The stork?

I want to know this, since I'm doing a small survey on it.

No. I was not told. Nor was I told about mensturation (I am female) and was scared to death when it started. I fially got up the courage to tell my mom and all she said was that now I was a woman. That comfused me even more as I didn't know how long this would last.

On top on it all I had seen 'the film' at school (early 70's) and it didn't help at all.

I made sure my daughter knew what was going on. That's for sure.

Source(s): I have always been curious so I started reading what ever I could get my hands on that seemed ligit.

My mother told me that she and my father prayed every night for nine months and then one morning she woke up and an angel had brought me down from heaven. She said God only gave parents a baby if they prayed really hard and were really good for nine months. I learned the truth from a magazine article on the abortion debate when I was about nine and spent the next few weeks desperately trying to find out how the baby got in there. A boy in my class told me how but I refused to believe him until my older sister confirmed it. My mother had 'the talk' with me when I was eleven. This was in the sixties. Everyone I know tells their kids the truth now, and that's better - but I don't regret my mother's beautiful little white lie. And to her every baby really was a miracle from heaven - she just fudged the details a bit until we were old enough to understand them.

I wasn`t told .But I had my own story. It was when a lady got so filled with air that her clothes didn`t fit ,her husband took her to the hospital and they put her in a room all alone . When she went to sleep an angel came down from heaven and stuck a pin in her belly to let the air out . Then the angel left the baby. The reason the womans belly filled with air is to let her know that she needed to go buy baby stuff.

i always knew about how a woman gets pregnant and sex as far as I know. i was never placed under false beliefs like the stork. my parents were always very open with me about stuff like that. i never believed in santa clause or the easter bunny (or at least not for long). i think honesty is the best thing with your children, the more that they know about sexuality and pregnancy/parenting, even at a young age (such as when a girl gets her first period or sooner) then they will are less likely to experiment and find out about it from the wrong places. i was never interested in sex until i met my future husband and i attribute that to my parents being so open and honest with me, and i hope that i have the courage to be that open with my children.

My mam told me and my sisters in graphic detail in front of my dad as he prepared the tea one evening! But all it did was make us feel uncomfortable and we couldnt wait to be 'dismissed'- but we never asked to know. When i was pregnant with my second baby my son did ask how it got there so we told him that daddy had planted a baby seed in mum's tummy. At 5 yrs old we felt it was enough basic info without making it 'off the wall' and he never thought to ask how the seed got planted there!

My mom gave me the real skinny, which made her have to come to school and explain to me that I was not to be educating the rest of the second grade class. Still, in retrospect I still prefer her brand of candor to the nonsense others generally spew. I was prepared when I had children of my own. I too gave them the proper information, but I cautioned them to allow other kid's parents to do the same for them without interference.

I asked at a pretty young age, and I got a pretty straightforward answer, involving the words penis and vagina, which are all I remember. I was quite shocked at that age to hear those words from my mother, so the rest of it took a back seat in terms of my long term memory.

Are you kidding. When we asked the question they just didn't answer. I had older siblings. That's how I found out and I was 12 before I really understood how it actually happens. That's why when my kids asked me I went to the library and checked out a book on the subject.

my mom told me first about the bird that carried babies. Then told me they come from eggs. So I stole one out of the fridge. Then kept it warm to hatch it. Needless to say I never got a baby that way.

I wished my parents did tell me the truth so I could have avoided so many problems. I actually had to learn through misinformation from my peers.
