Become a better employee?
How do i become a better employee at my current position? Even though I know it brings food to the table and pays my bills. Through the years of working the same trade I have lost all my interest in my current position. Can you help me understand the points I need to continue my daily tasks? I work in a call center doing collection calls and resolving customer service issues for more than 7 years now. I have never moved up. always worked at an entry level position. I am now 25 years of age and I need something to encourage me. Thanks in advance.

Become motivate and willing to learn new tasks. Ask your immediate supervisor for extra work. Also, if you are only at a diploma level, start taking college computer or business courses in the evening. Your employer may even reimburse you for them. There is always growth in a company, there is just a need for the person to be qualified for that growth. I've known people who started out as shipping clerks for my company and are now dept heads. Keep your head up, i was in a similar situation and now I'm in networking. I was just always willing to learn and I think that's what help me. Good luck.

I used to work at a collection agency It was great money and hard to deal with sometimes mentally, and there is really no where to move up I know!! It sound like your ready for a change why don't you find a different job put in your two weeks leave on good terms just in case you want to go back. EVERYONE NEEDS A BREAK FROM THAT a few of my real close friends are still collecting they take breaks you almost have to.... 7 years is a long time

It sounds like your burnt out. And that's normal, especially in your position. I was a tele-collector for a very brief period and I could only last for 3 months.
I know the market is very tough (Believe me, I know) but the human mind wasn't designed for a lot of what we do for work, not on an annual basis.
If finding a new job isn't an option, then all you can really do is suck it up. Find something, any little thing throughout the day that can help you drag yourself through it. Otherwise I would suggest you start looking for something else. Because once you're burnt out, that's it . . you're done, stick a fork in you. (but don't quit before you have something else lined up, I've made that mistake before)

Just starting looking for another job. Your company may not have positions available for people to advance. Don't be afraid, you have many years of working experience behind you so give that a try. You can be a better employee at a BETTER company too.

If you have gotten good annual reviews, and have gotten fairly steady pay increases, perhaps it is time you started to look for other opportuities ----in a confidential way of course. You sound dead ended with your present company - it is time to move on to bigger and better opportubnites. You will be surprised at what you find...

Ask your supervisor what he or she recommends. Tell them you are interested in moving up. You might be surprised. Often, people are overlooked JUST BECAUSE they haven't expressed an interest.
