Are you really an American Patriot?

Do you really love the USA? Do you remember what Kennedy said?

He said this, Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.

Have we forgotten this?

Yes I do love the USA and I appreciate living here. So I always stand at the NA, say the pledge, remove my hat, honor our veterans, say thanks to firemen and police that serve us everyday and support the troops with donations and moral support but most importantly I speak our language, vote and never never dishonor the man in the white house whether I voted for him or not. Yes we have forgotten this.

I remember what Kennedy DID .. slept with Marilyn Monroe while he was married .. and many other women.

I consider being a Patriot not doing what someone else says being a patriot is, but rather being a citizen who supports with his actions the principle(s) that make a particular country unique.

In THIS country, "Government" does not exist to be "served", it exists soley in order to protect the (legitimate) rights of those under it's flag.

So, in answering your question: Yep, I think I am .. but I sure wonder about those others, who believe I am a slave, whose only patriotic action should be to "serve"government!

    I agree with Atheist's explanation!

'Patriotism' does not mean following something blindly. And I think that many people quote Kennedy's statement out of context. Service and loyalty are one thing but it is quite another thing to become a stooge for those who seek to exploit citizens for their own nefarious ends.

I believe I am definitely a Patriot. Indeed, my ancestors were among the first settlers here, for the sake of religous freedom, as Pilgrims. My family members played a diect role in the War of Independence of 1776 and all major conflicts facing the USA ever since, uptil World War 2.

But what we are being forced to swallow today in the name of 'patriotism' is not patriotic, it is treacherous.

Conservatives have perverted the term "patriot" to mean something completely enslaving and sickening, so in the contemporary sense, no, I'm not a patriot. And frankly, I'm not to thrilled with the direction this country is going, so I have no real sense of loyalty to this place. Its just where I live, its not more or less than that.

    Short answer: No.

I'm not a blind patriot. I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon just because the government says so. Be objective.

I haven't forgotten, but I fear many people have. We've becoe anentitlement society, werhe the people think the country should do for them what they should do for themselves.
