ASCII codes?

I can use my PC to make symbols for copyright and others like §, ¿ and Ô by using the alt key and the corresponding code using the key pad of numbers on the right side if the keyboard - But I can't on a laptop as there is no # keypad on the right and using the numbers that are above the letters doesn't wwork.

Update:

Don't know if this will help in your case, but on my Dell laptop I can hit Fn + F11 to toggle Num Lock on and off. When on,

    7890

    uiop

    jkl;

    m,./

    becomes

    789*

    456-

    123+

    0,./

With num lock toggled on, I can type Alt + moi to generate an ASCII 065 (letter "A"), etc.

Well, if that doesn't work, the only thing I could suggest is use the Character Map (start--> All Programs--> Accessories--> System Tools--> Character Map). You can copy the character(s) from there and ctrl+v to paste.

Also, an external USB numeric pad _might_ work; probably pick one up for $15-$20 at a place like Best Buy.

My advice is to use the Character Map.

To access the Character Map in Windows:

    1. Click on the Start menu.

    2. Click on Run...

    3. Type in "charmap" (without the speech marks)

    4. Click on OK.

    5. Now select the font you are using from the drop-down menu.

    6. Click on the character you want to use.

    7. Click on Select, and then click on Copy.

    8. The character is now in your clipboard, so you are free to paste the character into any program.

Go into start/all programs/accessories/system tools/character map you will see all the characters the particular font you are using will display, you can also copy and paste from here! Good luck and God bless!

If you have a word-processing program, you can usually Insert special characters like that into a document. Then cut&paste them from there into email, or whatever other application u r using.

Try using num lock, and then typing Alt+Fn+0171 to get

    "«"
