Wolf Creek is NOT based on a true story but it has elements from the infamous backpacker murders which did happen in the Aussie bush. Unlike in the movie, the killer - Ivan Milat (do a search on name for more info) - was caught and is now serving a life sentence in jail.
Wolf Creek is a disturbing and gruesome film - not recommended if you have a weak stomach.
