How long will we continue to allow ourselves to be slaves to OIL? Or, does MONEY have absolute rule?
There are other technologies out there. If we can develope them then we're killing 2 birds with one stone. 1. We free ourselves from the grip that OIL has had over us for decades now, and 2. It helps to clean our air and our world around us can begin to right itself.

It's because the other technologies don't work. Or at this point in time, re-doing EVERY gas station to use the other fuels like ethanol would be impossible to do for many decades. You would have to convert one gas station at a time or else no one would be able to get gas at all.
Batteries currently don't hold enough juice, solar powered cars are dumb, and flux capacitors don't exist.
If the world was so simple as in...oh ok, time to switch to a cleaner energy source *poof* we wouldn't have even 99.9% of the problems we do now.
Also, blame the people IN the country who drive those damn huge SUV's and have absolutely no need for it. I could understand if you've gotta tow a boat or go on very frequent family trips but that's not even 0.00001% of the population that does that. Everyone loves to cry ***** and moan about problems they themselves have enticed. You can't have your cake and eat it too when it comes to oil.

we will continue to be slaves as long as the politicians trick us into being. There is so much $ behind the raping of our natural resourses and until we can get some of this $ behind alternative fuels R&D, it will continue to stay on course for the worlds elite to make more $. The other problem the world has is convenience and loving status symbols. The gas guzzling vehicles are not going anywhere anytime soon.

As long as comsumers are ignorant and lazy. There are two solutions to the energy problem - drill more or use less. We will continue to use the most economical energy resources (oil & natural gas) until we are forced to use something else by either economics or government mandate.
And we are not "slaves" to oil. The US is an affluent nation because it uses a lot of energy. If we cut our energy consumption, we reduce our standard of living. It's your choice.

There are times, I think our government doesn't care for tomorrow's children. At most level, politicians are just after their own interest! Whatever it could help them build a lasting seat in the political office, they're for it and it doesn't matter if it affects the whole populace not for the better but for the worst.
Ordinary citizens longs for what you propose but does our government truly listen?

i don't believe that we will ever be completely free of the usage of oil. i think that also as long as we have waste, even if not from cars, we will still produce stuff that will go into the air, making it potentially unclean
