How do I humanly dispose of fish?

Recently my Black Convict Cichlids had about 100 babies. My tank was already overcrowded before the guppies. I have 5 adult cichlids in a ten gallon tank with a lot of hidding places. They have been doing really well. But now the parents of the guppies are extremly aggressive. Should I get rid of the guppies and how?

Ok, baby fish are called fry not guppies. Your breeding pair is going to be extremely aggressive from now on. You need a bigger tank or to get rid of the breeders. Leave the fry in the tank. The strongest, fastest will survive. Then once they have reached about 1/2 inch take them to a petstore and get some credit.

Your biggest problem is going to be your adults. Your convicts will spawn again in about 8 weeks. They are going to be hyper-aggressive from now on because they will always have either eggs or fry to protect.

I have a breeding pair of convicts in with a Jack dempsey in a 55. The dempsey is easily twice their size but stays out of their way. We have as many as 4 generations of convicts in our tank at one time. We have a nursery tank but they don't grow as fast and they are impossible to catch. Once they get to be 1/2 in the big tank we net em. Our nursery babies we bring in at around 1/4 inch because there are so many of them.

You really shouldn't kill healthy fish. Trade them in to a store. Leave the fry in there to at least have a chance to grow. You really need a bigger tank man. You should only have one Convict in there, they don't have enough territory. You should set up a 55 for your adult fish and keep the ten as your nursery.

    Good Luck!!!

Okay so you are mixing guppies with convicts? I'm confused. First mistake. If you can afford another tank, that would be the ideal situation.... Five adult cichlids in a ten gallon tank? You do know that at full size they are 4-6 inches? Thats enough room for exactly one cichlid. Get a 40 gallon tank for your cichlids... MINIMUM.

The fastest so for this reason the most painless end for the fish is to diminish the cerebral cortex. If the fish is sufficiently small then purely beheading the fish is adequate (the body might want to twitch as with a headless fowl does that is purely muscle spasms) for higher fish a decrease above the eyes at what you may guess to be forehead aspect and into the cerebral cortex it really is the proper of the backbone.

Seperate the fish, either in seperate tanks, or by placing a see through plastic divider, right down the middle of your existing tank

It's fairly natural for some fish to be aggresive. Wait to see what happens to the babies. Most of them will die. The ones that survive could be sold or given away.

Do you have children yourself? Maybe you could take them and the fish to a local country park and make an occasion of "setting them free" (the fish that is) in the pond/lake at least that way they have a chance to live.

  • get another tank for the parents and move them in there.

I would purchase another tank or give them away.

Give him a burial at sea. Flush them down.
